This really is an excellent film. It is on the long side. One gets the idea there is enough story here for 1 1/2 films crammed into one where other directors
would have been tempted to stretch it into 2. I would quibble with a few things I read in some reviews.

1] While Ledger is awesomely creepy some reviewers get carried away and rant that he's really the protagonist. Perhaps this is a ploy intended to make a
case for a posthumous Best Actor award but it slights C....

I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls last week. I don't agree with the usual consensus that IJ & the Last
Crusade was a big improvement over IJ & Temple of Doom. Those two films were roughly equal IMHO. The opening of Temple of Doom was
better than that of Last Crusade which was too much a contrived mimipilot for the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

OK so what about Crystal Skulls? I had mixed...

The big surprise in this film is how good the dialogue is. It is a notch better than a lot of Mamet dialogue---less repetitive, vulgar and pretentious for one
thing. It is an extremely well cast film---Dowey Jr,. Paltrow, Bridges as well as most of the minor roles. The film is funny even in slapstick mode. The
special effects are awesome. Go take a look and enjoy yourselves.

Some Coen Brothers film get self indulgent (eg. overrated Oh Brother Where Art Thou) but initially it looks like they are going to play No Country for Old Men straight except for a few quirks. It collapsed in the last third, the director giving in to cheap scares and really poor CGI zombies, and a really horrifyingly spiritual ending... but the truly mindblowingly astonishing depiction of post-apocalyptic Manhattan was worth the price of admission.

It was so realistic and disturbing that a couple of days later I was a...
